3 Ultrasound Tips Anyone Can Master

Greetings Scan Squad!

Here are three easy tips that you can do to improve your ultrasound quality, no matter your skill level! Quality imaging starts with the basics.

1.Sedate, sedate, sedate! A relaxed, still patient is key to clear images and optimal organ visualisation. Movement, a tense abdomen or heavy breathing can make structures harder to locate and image properly.

2. Clip all hair and dim the lights - hair creates an air interface that sound waves cannot penetrate + a dark room = better screen visualisation.

3. Use a TON of ultrasound gel - gel facilitates the passage of ultrasound waves into the body without reflecting off intervening air.

Make the hair clip generous! It should range from the xiphoid process to the inguinal region bilaterally. It should also extend laterally - a good landmark is the fold of skin between the thigh and the body.

Happy scanning!
